Pre 2009 Krawls are

14 December 2012 - Short Krawl, long lunch... Rain greeted
us when we arrived at The Tally Ho, but did not deter us, well not all of us. Our most recent
member, Jim, was presented with his badge as was Apples and the President (he had lost his original badge). We
enjoyed mulled wine and sausage whilst waiting for Roger to appear, his bus had been delayed by an accident. We
then voted to try a short (road) walk before settling in to a very enjoyable Goose lunch. Much noise and
merriment soon cleared the room and we were left on our own to await the bus to take us all back to the
home...
Present: Dick Morley (President), Mike Peel, Dave Cordell, Chris
Haines, Jim Barker, Dave Appleton, Roger Counter, Dave White, John Berry, Fred Spalding and Ken Mitchell
(Lunch) - Colin Brand was ill.
Apologies: Phil Draper, Antony Pontifex, Brian Stone, Ian Aitken, Rae Smith, Peter Eade, Mike Tyler, Peter
Ward and Bonzo
Sad to report that Boz Beazleigh died on 29 November (the day of our last Krawl) having fought hard against
MS.
2.17 loop on the roads
29 November 2012 - Our favourite pub. Having not visited the Golding Hop for
some time we rectified that and as usual went on to the Harrow for lunch. A good group of 15
enjoyed typical good banter, beer, food and wine. Jim Barker and Phil Draper were proposed and welcomed into
our ranks. We now number 25.

30 August 2012 - A Krawl on the edge... A small select group enjoyed a Krawl to the edge
of the world, well, the edge of East Sussex. Shirt-sleeve's and sun was the order of the day until a sharp
shower reminded us that we were heading out of Kent! Halfway was The Fountain and lunch was taken
at The Kentish Horse, and good value it was too.

27 May 2012 - Ladies Day Krawl around Chiddingstone and
Penshurst. A beautiful summers day greeted a bevy of ladies and their hosts. No less than 27 Krawled and 29
dined - in true traditional style, although the jackets and ties didn't last long in the heat! The
President, Professor Christopher Haines, had worked out a delightful route that offered shade, views and
only minor inclines. The distance was 5.2 miles to the halfway house, The Greyhound at
Charcott, and a further 2.3 to The Castle Inn in Chiddingstone. The
Krawl started a tad late with a photo call at the Chidding Stone and ended with a long, enjoyable
lunch.
We were joined by Molly & Jane for lunch and we all
stood to order in remembrance of our dear fellow Krawler, Ivan Phillips who had finally succumbed to the
dreaded 'C' on 10 May - he would have greatly enjoyed the whole day.
At the conclusion the Walkie Talkies gave us a fine
rendition of their 'cry' or 'fire'...
Present: Chris Haines (President) & Sue, BN & Terri,
Fred Spalding & PohLeng, Ken Mitchell & Jackie, Kate, Trish & Val, Dave White & Rita, Ray
(Dave's guest) & Christine, Rae Smith & Sjoukje, Annie & Nancy, Roger Counter & Doff,

13 (12 Krawlers)
27 April 2012 - after days of rain (the hosepipe ban was still in place) and promised
showers it wasn't; it was a very pleasant day enjoyed by 10 members and two guests. It should have been 13 but
Dick Morley decided that he would venture out 24 hours early... We met in Chilham car park and were ferried a
couple of miles further on to start the krawl. Mike lost his GPS watch having placed it on top of a car, enough
said. We krawled steadily, but still arrived at The Rose & Crown half an hour late! So, a
swiftish pint latter we headed back to Chilham, admiring the bluebells en route, for lunch at the Woolpack
Inn. Mike then found his watch, in the gutter, unfortunately it had been run over and is no more... First
half was about 6 & 1/2 and the second 2 1/2 miles. Fred reported that Ivan was still seriously ill and
wished to be remembered to all, we raised a glass.
Present: Anthony Pontifex (President), John Berry (and his guest Harry Sargent), Fred Spalding, Mike Peel,
Dave Cordell, Rae Smith (and his guest Jim Barker), Ken Mitchell, Michael Tyler, Peter Ward and David
Appleton.
Apologies: Chris Haines (away in USA), Colin Brand & David White (away in France), Roger Counter (away
in Isle of Man), Terry Clark, Dick Morley, Brian Stone, Ian Aiken, Peter Eade, Ivan Philips and Bonzo
29 March 2012 - What a turn out... 15 Krawling and 17 dining. A wonderful sunny, dry and warm spring
day for our Krawl from Westerhan to Toys Hill and the Fox & Hounds. Yes, it was uphill, at least
the first half, and three of our party got lost! However our President, Dave Appleton, threw away his outer
garments, rucksack and GPS and set of to track them down. Mission accomplished he, and they, arrived just in
time to slack their thirst before setting off again for the much easier descent back to The Kings
Arms. A very good value meal was served in the conservatory. Yet another enjoyable day. 4.8 miles to the
half-way house, a further 2.8 back, gave us 7.6 miles for the day.
Present: Dave Appleton (President), Dave White, Fred Spalding, Chris Haines, Colin Brand, Mike Peel, and
Dave Cordell, Roger Counter (and his guest Jim Barker), Peter Eade (lunch, and his guest, subsequently admitted
a member, Ian Aitken), Rae Smith, Michael Tyler (and his neighbour, Howard), Peter Ward, Anthony Pontifex and
Terry Clark (lunch).
Apologies: Ken Mitchell, John Berry, Dick Morley, Brian Stone, Ian Lawrie, Ivan Philips and Bonzo.
23 February 2012 - Should have been 12 but two cried off with 'flu', so we were 10 and a
jolly ten it was. After what seemed like weeks of sub zero temperatures we were greeted by warm (16c)
sunshine as we ventured off from The King's Arms. A solid down, up, down and more up found us,
after 5.2 miles, at The Fox in Keston - a much improved hostelry that provided us with some
well earned ale. A straight forward krawl back to The Kings Arms saw us arrive bang on 14:00
having completed just under 8 miles in total. Hearty fare, wine and social intercourse meant we took nearly
3 hours for lunch...
Present: Dave White (President), Fred Spalding, Chris Haines, Colin Brand, Ken Mitchell, John
Berry (and his guest Phil Draper), Mike Peel and Dave Cordell, Roger Counter.
Apologies: Peter Ward, Rae Smith, Peter Eade, Dick Morley, Mike Tyler, Antony Ponifex and Ivan
Phillips.
26 January 2012 - The start of our 101st year went well with a great turnout of 10
Krawlers and one guest (who later was inducted as a full member), meeting up at The
Padwell in Stone Street, Sevenoaks. We left promptly at 10:00 and krawled up hill and
down dale, through a heavy shower and lots and lots of mud, arguably the muddiest krawl we can
remember.
After 4.9 miles we duly arrived at the half-way house, The Buck's Head. Whilst
reviving ourselves, we witnessed a very heavy hail storm; fortunately, we were all sitting by a
roaring fire. A fine pint later, we left to do more up, in glorious sunshine, before reaching
The Padwell after a further 1.4 miles - giving us 6.3 miles for the day. Dick was
there to meet us and all twelve dined in good harmony, enjoying good, plentiful food served by a
very able and charming young lady called Louise. Let's hope that the rest of the year is as
enjoyable...
